Dearly beloved

Dearly beloved

I gather you in my memories

Scanning over faces long lost from me

Pale in the mists of my mourning

Our longing for a resting place,

Sins unintended, left cuts too deep

And we were too weak to stop the festering

Broken from the beginning

Love could not grow but sickly

Evanescent, it leaves as you do

Ghost inside

On a warm summer’s eve

Before I knew my name

I cried for you

And when you came

I breathed you in

In hunger, thirst and fear

When I was too weak, too small

I needed you

And through my call

I swallowed you

Years passed by in shadow

And in that dark you grew

I sought my way

But never knew

You lived in me
